From 9am to 8pm on 28 and 29 September, members of the public will have a rare opportunity to visit one of CERN's underground sites. Two points of the Large Hadron Collider, CERN’s flagship accelerator, will be open to visitors, as will its four main experiments and the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS), another underground accelerator.
Geneva, 19 July 2013. New results to be presented at the EPS-HEP conference in Stockholm, Sweden, this afternoon have put the Standard Model of particle physics to one of its most stringent tests to date. The CMS and LHCb experiments at CERN’s1 Large Hadron Collider will present measurements of one of the rarest measureable processes in physics: the decay of a Bs (pronounced B-sub-s) particle into two muons.
Geneva, 17 July 2013. Scientists working on CERN1 experiments are preparing to present their latest results at summer conferences. This year, two major conferences are coming up over the next couple of weeks: the European Physical Society’s High Energy Physics conference, EPS-HEP 2013, which is being held in Stockholm, Sweden, from 18-24 July, and Strangeness in Quark Matter, SQM 2013, held in Birmingham, UK, from 22-27 July.
Geneva, 11 July 2013. CERN1 and EUROVISION2 are awarding grants to two production companies to develop multiplatform media proposals to spark the scientific curiosity of “tweens” – children aged eight to twelve.
“Children are the most remarkable example of curiosity,” said Sergio Bertolucci, CERN’s Director of Research and Computing. “We should not limit this curiosity, but develop it”.
Geneva, 4 July 2013. From 27 to 30 September 2013, CERN1 is putting on a long weekend of events and activities as a way of sharing its research and discoveries with its community and the wider public.
On Saturday, 28 and Sunday, 29 September, CERN will open up its installations to the general public. With the slogan “Our Universe is Yours”, these two Open Days will put the spotlight on CERN's discoveries and experiments, as well as the fantastic machines that lead to these discoveries.
