Press release: Arts@CERN announces three new open calls and the arrival of new artists in residence

Geneva, 12 October 2015. CERN1 has today announced three new open calls giving a chance to artists to immerse themselves in the research of particle physics and its community. Two new international partners have joined the Accelerate @ CERN programme: the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) from UAE2 and Rupert, the centre for Art and Education from Vilnius, Lithuania3. The Collide @ CERN Geneva award is also now calling for entries, continuing the fruitful collaboration with The Republic and Canton of Geneva and the City of Geneva4.

Press release: One month to go until TEDxCERN “breaks the rules”

Geneva, 9 September 2015. On Friday, 9 October, CERN1 will be hosting a TEDx conference for the third year running, this time on the theme of “Breaking the Rules”. Providing a platform for visionaries in fields such as science, novel technologies and education, the event, sponsored by Rolex, will take place on the CMS site in Cessy, France.

Press release: ATLAS and CMS experiments shed light on Higgs properties

Geneva/Saint Petersburg, 1st September 2015. Three years after the announcement of the discovery of a new particle, the so-called Higgs boson, the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations present for the first time combined measurements of many of its properties, at the third annual Large Hadron Collider Physics Conference (LHCP 2015). By combining their analyses of the data collected in 2011 and 2012, ATLAS and CMS draw the sharpest picture yet of this novel boson. The new results provide in particular the best precision on its production and decay and on how it interacts with other particles.

Press release: The ALICE experiment at CERN makes precise comparison of light nuclei and antinuclei

Geneva 17 August 2015. The ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN1 has made a precise measurement of the difference between ratios of the mass and electric charge of light nuclei and antinuclei. The result, published today in Nature Physics, confirms a fundamental symmetry of nature to an unprecedented precision for light nuclei. The measurements are based on the ALICE experiment’s abilities to track and identify particles produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions at the LHC.
